British singer-songwriter, guitarist, musician, record producer and film score composer Mark Knopfler was born on August 12, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, the UK. He rose to fame as the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of the popular rock band Dire Straits. He is also a co-founder of the band along with his brother David. The band broke up in 1995 and Knopfler embarked on a solo career. He has released 9 records and the last one “Get Lucky” came out in September 2009. Knopler is considered one of the greatest guitarists; he was included in the Rolling Stone list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Times.
