38 Special (also known as Thirty-Eight Special) is an American rock, hard rock and country rock band that was formed in 1974 by Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant, and currently consists of Danny Chauncey, Larry Junstrom, Bobby Capps, Don Barnes, Donnie Van Zant and Gary Moffatt. They quickly gained popularity in 1981 with their hit single "Hold On Loosely" from their debut album, Wild-Eyed Southern Boys.
