American rock band Alice in Chains from Seattle, Washington, the United States was formed in 1987. The band members of the group are Jerry Cantrell, Layne Staley (died in 2002), Mike Inez and William DuVal. The group became popular at the beginning of 1990s together with such Seattle bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. However the band’s style is characterized as “an absolute unique sound which can’t be classified”. Though the band has never announced officially about the breakup it was on long hiatus and the death of vocalist Layne Staley was a great shock for everyone. Despite this fact the band is going to release their fourth studio album Black Gives Way to Blue in September 2009. Their previous albums are Facelift, Dirt and Alice in Chains.
