New Order was an English post-punk, new wave, alternative rock and electronic music band that was formed in 1980 by Bernard Sumner (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Peter Hook (bass, backing vocals, electronic drums) and Stephen Morris (drums, synthesizers). During 1976 and 1980, Ian Curtis, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris, and Bernard Sumner were members of other alternative rock and post-punk band Joy Division. When Curtis (one of the band's members) died, they changed the band's name. Their manager Rob Gretton found the name "New Order" in an article in The Guardian newspaper entitled "The People's New Order of Kampuchea". And the band was named "New Order". In 1981, they released their debut album, Movement, which yielded the singles, "Everything's Gone Green" and "Temptation".
