Virtual band Gorillaz was formed by Damon Albarn (Blur) and by comic book creator Jamie Hewlett who created the animated characters 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. The project was started in Essex, England in 1998. The music of the band is close to alternative rock with influences of hip-hop, pop, britpop, trip hop. This project is collaboration of many different musicians with Damon Albarn being the only one permanent contributor. The first band’s single Clint Eastwood quickly brought the popularity and mainstream success, the band became a world known act. Other their smashing hits are Feel Good Inc., Dare, Dirty Harry, Kids with Guns/El Mañana. Gorillaz earned an entry in Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful virtual band as their debut album Gorillaz sold 7 million copies.
