R.E.M. is an American alternative rock, pop rock and college rock band that was founded in 1980. It currently consists of Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar) and Mike Mills (bass guitar). The band is often considered as a pioneer of the alternative rock genre. They emerged on the American rock scene with their breakthrough debut album, Murmur, which received positive reviews from music critics. They continued the success with their following albums, Reckoning, Fables of the Reconstruction, Lifes Rich Pageant and Document. In 1992, they released their best selling album, Automatic for the People, which spawned the hit singles such as "Drive", "Man on the Moon", "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite", "Everybody Hurts", "Nightswimming" and "Find the River".
