English soul and rock band Simply Red was formed in Manchester, England in 1985. The band was founded by Mick Hucknall who is the band’s leader till present. He recruited musicians for his new band with manager Elliott Rashman as his previous band The Frantic Elevator had broken up. The debut album Picture Book was released in 1985 and quickly gained popularity and strong following. The debut album was certified 5 x Platinum in the UK and Platinum in the US reaching number 2 on the UK Albums chart. The band continued their success with most of their next albums (there are 10 studio albums in their discography). The band’s US singles number one are "Holding Back the Years (re-issue)" and "If You Don't Know Me By Now". In the UK they have only one single number one - "Fairground".
