Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970 in Long Island, New York, the United States. She is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. She has sold more than 200 million of album all around the world and has 18 hit singles number one, more than anyone else in the United States being behind the Beatles only. Being so commercial successful she has received five Grammy Awards and she is known for her great vocals of different diapason and for her classical pop ballads. Carey met Tommy Mottola (head of Columbia Records at that time) in 1988 and he singed her to the label. The debut album which was released in 1990 quickly propelled her to the stardom. Her hit singles Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday and I Don’t Wanna Cry topped American charts. The next year saw her winning her first Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocals.
