Christy Moore (birth name Christopher Andrew Moore) is an Irish folk, traditional Irish and pop singer-songwriter. He was born on 7 May, 1945, in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. He quickly gained popularity as one of the founding members of folk music band Planxty. He also was named as Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. He achieved mainstream success as a solo singer with his most successful album, The Iron Behind the Velvet, which featured Noel Hill on Concertinas, Tony Linnane on Fiddle, Gabriel McKeon on Uilleann Pipes, the late Jimmy Faulkner on Guitars and Rosemary Flanagan on Cello. Donal Lunny makes an appearance as producer on the album's song,"John O'Dreams".
