Amel Larrieux, birth name Amel Eliza Stowell was born on March 8, 1973 in Manhattan, New York City, the United States. She is an American R&B, soul, jazz, and folk singer-songwriter, keyboardist and record producer. She rose to fame as part of the duo the Groove Theory. She formed the duo along with Bryce Wilson. They began collaboration in 1991 and officially disbanded in 2001. However, it has been recently announced about their reunion and their intention to record a new album. Larrieux has pursued a successful solo career. She has released four albums. The debut album InfinitePossibilities was released in 2000 and peaked at number 79 on the Billboard 200 and at number 21 on the Top R&B/Hip-hop Tracks.
